I was off to a good start. Was at the meeting point in front of Sydhavn station 30 minutes earlier because of misunderstanding the event description. By the time the last ones arrived, one hour had passed and the cold had determined me to go in a Netto supermarket 3 times. The girls working there were very nice. They allowed me to use their bathroom :).
The 7 of us took some photos and wrote a couple more hitch-hiking signs and were off in haste. I teamed up with Joren and we were very lucky to catch the first ride. At 11:43 sharp we were at the Seven-eleven in the centre of Odense, buying some sweets and almost forgetting to ask for the receipt that would later be the proof of us reaching the destination first. The prize of the competition: two huge Chupa-Chups that had 10 lollipops inside. They matched our jackets!
After a walk around the centre, Joren and I took shelter in a Baresso, where we waited for the rest. Once the gang was reunited, everyone took out their sandwiches and cookies and we had a picninc in the cafe, like the true hitch-hikers that we are. Full stomachs gave us courage to face the cold again and walk around some of the city sights. We didn't pay much attention to them, we were busy fooling around. Highlights of the tour:
Cardboard Sledging
The Fall of Fedrik
Ice Pancakes
Around 16.30 we started thinking about hitch-hiking back. We split up again. Within 10 minutes, Sonia, Vale and Fedrik caught a ride. Soon after, so did Ola and Judith. One hour later, Joren and I were still on the side of the road, while the prospects were grim. It was getting dark. We had no more warm tea. Luck definitely wasn't on our side. Finally, a nice lady whose car smelled like yummy food that made our mouths water was kind enough to take us to the highway. From the car, we saw Sonia, Vale and Fedrik on the side of the road. So the ride they caught only took them out of the city. They were really trying hard to catch the attention of drivers. The sight in itself was quite funny. But when the thought that they caught the first ride came to mind, it didn't seem so funny anymore. But still, seeing them there made us feel less sorry about us having bad karma. However, any sort of positive feeling soon wore off. At 18.00 we still hadn't caught a ride, it was totally dark, so we decided to go back and catch a train. The other 3 did the same.
We were back in Copenhagen at a bit before 21 and went to Sonia's for tea, warm cocoa and pasta al pesto. For which we were all incredibly grateful :)!
Now that's what I call a day well spent! The depressive H.C. Andersen would have frowned at how much fun we had!
P.S. Joren posted a very cool video on his blog *which unfortunately is in Dutch - I meant the blog, not the video*. Check it out here (scroll down to get to it).
